INTRODUCTION

Disaster risk information is spatial in nature. The assessment and management of disaster risk depend heavily on GIS. Therefore, it's crucial to raise knowledge of the use of GIS among experts who deal with disaster risks.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of using geospatial information to lower risk during disasters;
  • Understand the terminologies and meanings in relation to geospatial information technology.
  • Application of GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS) to produce geographical data Identification, search, access, gathering, and evaluation of geospatial data with regard to lowering disaster risks
  • Create maps using GIS software. Use GIS to determine the likelihood of disasters and plan ways to reduce those risks.
